The courtyard is supposed to be a place for walks and relaxation, however because of large terrain level differences it is currently inhabited mainly by bushes and ivy. This proposal aims on enlarging the usable space by constructing a wide deck supported by columns. The newly accessible space is designed as a park promenade with footway loops alowing short walks and recreation.
Another unpleasant issue with the U shaped courtyard are persistent winds blowing through the area, making the outdoor experience quite uncomfortable, especially for elderly people. This was solved with the help of electronically operated aluminium pergolas, which can be set to provide shelter and wind barrier when necessary, while also serving as shade and space defining element.
