The design for the competition for a “water sculpture” on the main boulevard in the capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana, was created together with architects Mojca Kocbek and Primož Boršič. We explored virtually all possible concepts of contemporary fountains, but eventually decided to take a more daring approach.
The sculpture, resembling a water supply pipe ripped out of the ground and twisted around, reminds the passers-by that the abundance of clean drinking water is a basic element of every prosperous city. The kinks of the fountain guide views and attract attention from all sides, create space around the water stream and allow for seating. The jury also appreciated how well the colour, size, positioning and material fit the surrounding modern buildings as well as the overall style of the main street.
We also focused on the possibility of interaction with the water element and proposed a solution that allows safe bathing in hot summer days.
